Camiguin's Cold Shower
Exploring Camiguin Island in a day, is one of the most exciting part of my Northern Mindanao Series. I originally planned to stay overnight in here, after all it's November 5, 2011, it would be a nice place to spend my birthday. After meeting Kuya Jojo in Benoni Port of Camiguin, we took an early breakfast meal and was immediately brought to our first itinerary for the day.
Taking stock of the Katibawasan Falls, in my home language, Tibawas means passing through an ordeal or surviving something, but I don't really understand what they mean when they named this falls Katibawasan, something I forgot to ask Kuya Jojo about.
It's early Saturday, we were glad to be the first guest to arrive, which means we can take pictures of the falls without or with less human interference. The souvenir shops and even the entrance booth is still close, our guide needed to find the caretaker before we step inside.
A pool of crystal clear water, and a water source cascading from a lofty height of 250 ft. The pool is clean, and chilling cool making it perfect for summer getaways. The sorrounding environment is mystical and the the pool is sorrounded by ground orchid, ferns and, drooping trees and boulders or rocks. With an entrance fee of Php 20.00 this mystical offering of Camiguin to its visitors is unforgetable, the cold swim will surely leave aching in your earlobes, but we do need the cold spalsh from time to time. Never mind that its a 75 meter drop, the cascading sound easily sooths a batthered soul.
Feels more like a nature park, the falls on itself is surrounded by lush green foliage. The Katibawasan falls is a treasured gift to Camiguin island, it completes the island package dubbed as virginal in some Filipino movies, some 5 km southeast of Mambajao, and sits at the foot of Mt Timpoong of Camiguin.
As a treat for myself, I was the first swimmer for the day. I had no chance of taking a quick shower when we left CDO early on. The thing is, the water is not just crystal clear, its a cold as its looks, below zero. So it didn't take me long to finish a quick swim, my earlobes are getting swollen.
It was a nice trip and we stayed here for at least an hour, right when guest had started to flock in and take a dip in the cold waters. Were just lucky we got here first, and the looming rain didn't ruin the day.

I didn't know Macaque was a native fauna of Camiguin. i saw heaps of them in Borneo recently :)

ReplyDelete@ Lakwatsera de primera - technically, Macaques are found all over south east asia.. so probably, its a different specie or on different regions.

great photos of the falls... too bad there seems to be lesser and lesser water though. it's been so many years since i was there. pero sobrang daming water at that time...
