SM Mall Of Asia
Photowalks On A Sunday
It was a fun activity hosted by Sykes Photo Club, a kind of activity I was eager to join with. Being a member of this exclusive club gave me the opportunity to connect with other photo enthusiast and together we learn from each other. My learning with them is very evident on the change in how I take pictures. Since I signed up for the membership and having attended the free basic photography workshop that they hosted too, things just settled into place. I learned a lot, and change a lot in my style, there's a lot of important aspect that I missed before, I thought I only need to know how to adjust the manual settings of my DSLR and understand rule of thirds, there was more to it. Now when I take landscape pictures, I don't just point and shoot, I need to make sure that the horizon is straight, with foreground or background, and a focal point where I can focus, I also have to consider the lights.
Sykes Photo Club is an exclusive group of photo enthusiast, we all call ourselves noobie (Newbie) as our learning is continuous, the only requirement is that you have to be employed by Sykes Asia. Every kind of camera is welcome, DSLR was never a requirement. Hence the start of me being serious in photography, few of the members are already published and professional in what they do. We do share our works from each other, and I tell you it is varied. From Newspaper fashion spreads to magazine, to wedding and portraiture, to the use of lomography and creative use of Iphone cameras, heck, we are even encouraged to try film point and shoot cameras.
As in this photowalk, I was having a hard time adjusting aperture and shutter speed, the grey light is getting the better of me, one of the members came to my rescue. I can't disclose the name, but he is a published fashion photographer who has done amazing work.
The plan was to walk the length and breadth of Roxas Blvd, with SM Mall Of Asia as our assembly point. I was ecstatic but dreaded the long walks or that it might be too hot. To my dismay, it was a grey Sunday morning with rain drizzles, I even woke too early for this that I witnessed a nice Sunrise within Taguig area, just didn't had time to take a shot. On a Sunday, SM Mall Of Asia alone is bustling with activity. As the members are gathered, instead of cancelling, we took a walk of SM Mall Of Asia bay area before calling it a day because it was raining. So far, the few frames I got where good enough, I just need to practice using long range telephoto lens.

ReplyDeletePhoto Walks are great opportunities to meet other photography enthusiasts. The only thing I hate about it is the "walking" part. Lalo na kung mainit. Kakapagod. I guess di kayo napagod masyado dito kasi walang araw. I love your candid shots, by the way. Keep on shooting... and walking...
ReplyDeleteI haven't attended any organized photo walk. I just do the own photo walk myself during my travels. Lol. I love the third pic with the boy and his pouty mouth. Galing ng timing! :)
ReplyDeleteparati ako sa mall of asia . pero hindi pa ako nakakapagphotowalk saka nalang sa pyro .hehehe
ReplyDeletethat little boy makes me smile which means,as I had always been telling you, you are a great photographer Francis. Salamat sa photowalk mo sa MOA. this is one inspiring post.
ReplyDeletea photowalk to a baywalk captures a lot of lives in SM Mall of Asia bay. Sooner or later, we'll be surprised that you're now an expert in photography, a professional for that matter. More power to your job!
ReplyDeleteButi ka pa may access sa isang photo club. I really want to study photography, syempre sa travels natin maraming opportunities sana to take good pictures, kahit sa "regular" places lang like malls.
ReplyDeleteluv the photos lalo na ung kay ate jejeje, ganda ng kulay,
ReplyDeleteAng ganda ng kuha. It reminds me when we had a long walk with my wife and friends along the MOA Seaside. Thanks for this.
ReplyDeletePhotowalk! I miss doing such! Nice pics, btw.
ReplyDeleteaww this reminds me so much of my typical sunday nung OFW pa ako. i work 6 days a week so every sunday lang ako may time for my photography + exercise! hehe so I always walk around with my camera, but my photo walk results is more of bugs, neighbor's pets, caterpillars.. flowers and insects! lol! ;) i miss those days... ;) love your shots!i like best the picture of the boy..
ReplyDeleteSimple subjects but captured with flair. :=) I like taking photos too, but can't seem to have the patience in learning the technical aspects.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had fun. A tip though, if I may ... focus your subjects to one side to give more depth. :)
ReplyDeletePerfect place to take some nice photographs. To be honest to you just buy new DSLR camera and I'm always learning from different photographers including you. I can't wait to use it and show my photography.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. You are a pro..it takes imagination and genius hands (aside from your excellent camera) to give a story on a very ordinary candid human activity. I love this.
ReplyDeletecandid shots...real life...genuine smiles...you captured it beautifully and deeply.
ReplyDeleteganda ng shots mo. galit yata yung isa at nakasimangot sa picture. =)
